23. 9. 2025 Five Pieces for Sustainable Recovery of Ukraine
When people from different parts of Ukraine come together, projects arise that have the power to change entire communities. Five such initiatives from us have just received support totaling 18,830 euros. All projects share one thing: they emerged from the collaboration of leaders in the Partnership Network for Sustainable Recovery of Ukraine, aiming to create a driving force for the country's future change. The projects come from various environmental fields and regions of Ukraine. From a board game that teaches teens to sort waste, to planting trees that protect riverbanks.
Green Game: Eco Heroes in Action
The board game Rekukle/Recycl was created by teens for teens. It aims to inspire young people to take responsibility for the environment. Students will learn sustainable behavior in a playful, practical way through interactive game sessions. The project will expand across regions and won’t be just short-term – after completion, it will remain in institutions as a long-term education tool.
ECOROOM
The first eco-classroom will be created in the construction school space, aiming to become an environmental education center in the city. ECOROOM will offer several themed zones – from “Energy of the Future” to “Green Home” and interactive stations focused on waste sorting, the environment, and creative eco-art. Students and visitors will learn through experiments, models, and digital tools. The room will be equipped with energy-saving furniture, eco models, and sensors showing real-time energy use and air quality.
Nature Bridge
Recovery of rural areas in Ukraine is not only about buildings and infrastructure but also community resilience. Nature Bridge combines modern technology with simple natural solutions.
The project creators will install a hybrid energy system to ensure stable power supply during outages. They will implement rainwater collection and automatic irrigation systems to give farmers and locals better water access. They will connect farmers, students, and vulnerable groups through online and offline meetings. Garden therapy will be an important feature.
The Wooden Legends: Calendar of Life
Old trees in the Ivano-Frankivsk region hold stories worth telling. The Wooden Legends project will focus on mapping and protecting these trees. A team of experts and volunteers will select twelve of the most interesting, which will be featured in a 2026 calendar. An eco-educational trail, public campaigns, and educational events for schools and locals will be created. The trees will appear in calendars, bags, cultural programs, and contests, including the European Tree of the Year.
Green Communities – the Foundation of Climate Resilience
Green Communities engage children, youth, and local governments in concrete actions to protect nature and improve community life quality. In Kosmachi, 200 thuja trees will be planted on the Pistynka riverbank to strengthen erosion protection. In the village of Stepanky, a biodiversity labyrinth covering one hectare will be created. Several cities will sow native grasslands, reducing mowing needs and suppressing invasive ragweed spread. Plantings will be complemented by school lessons, trainings for local officials, and campaigns for residents.
